DET (Diploma in Education and Training) course – All you need to know

The DET course will be helping you to develop the skills of teaching practice along with strategies of classroom management. The DET qualification is designed for those who want to carry out the role of a teacher and needs the QTLS (Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills) status. It is a level 5 course in teaching and education that needs 100 hours teaching at the least.

The course is designed to develop trainee teachers who wish to teach in their respective contexts. It is more of a qualification that can be called to be in-service as it requires significant practice. You need to be in the role of a teacher or trainer as per the qualification assessment criteria. In addition to that, the candidate also needs to provide competent evidence to undertake the responsibilities of a teacher or a trainer. The topics covered in the course include:

       ·         To plan the techniques, deliver and evaluate teaching and learning
       ·         Improving the necessary skills for assessing learning in training and education
       ·         Gathering the knowledge related to the theories and principles and learning the working models in the education and training sector

Requirements

There are a few basic requirements for you to apply for the DET course. They are mentioned below.
      ·         The candidate must be at least 19 years or older by age
      ·         A level 3 or equivalent certificate
      ·         Qualification for level 2 Mathematics and English knowledge

Assessment
The assessment process will continue throughout the training period. All the modules will be equally taken into consideration for the assessment. It will be divided into 4 parts mainly as mentioned below:
      ·         Progress Log:

The candidate needs to prepare a reflective diary and record the self-development during the course. A lot of factors are taken into consideration including a professional plan of action, key points of learning in the area of your subject, evaluating your progress as per the Professional Standards for Teachers and Trainers.
      ·         Teaching observations:

The assigned mentor will observe the candidate during the course. He/she must provide a detailed lesion plant to the observer and other relevant group background information.
      ·         Peer observation:

The candidate needs to observe the sessions of other teachers, comment and evaluate the focus on the various modules and compare it to their own practices.
      ·         Assessing the modules

The candidate needs to submit essays of 2000 words and report on related areas of the modules. A presentation may be necessary in some cases. The candidate needs to proper reference and citation to relevant literature.
